ABSTRACT

This chapter explains the classification of paradoxical narrative devices to a transmedial test. This classification is the result of a collaboration that took place between 2001 and 2004 within the framework of the Interdisciplinary Center for Narratology in Hamburg. The project was led by emeritus professor Klaus Meyer-Minnemann, and involved Nina Grabe, Sabine Lang, and Sabine Schlickers. The main results of this project have been published in Spanish, in the anthology La narracion paradojica; 'Normas narrativas' y el principio de la 'transgresion' in 2006. Lutas have written, in gis opinion the differentiation between metalepsis and syllepsis should not be made on the basis of the processes of levelling and transgressing the limits, but rather on the temporal dimension, as Genette did originally. Indeed, there seems to be a transgressive dimension in all syllepses and analogously a levelling dimension in all metalepses. This could be more obvious when considering cases of syllepses in other media, such as film.
