ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the lines of Hodkinson, Thornton, Williams, to evaluate and reformulate subcultural concepts and to promote new methods in this field. It considers the musical practices primarily as an expression of how people act toward and give meaning to everyday life. The chapter focuses for musicological analysis on several musical parameters. It discusses how Puur en Ongezoet's representations of women in two of their major productions were used to criticize women historically affiliated with the group. The chapter explores the music study which reformulates some of the concepts and methods of the Centre for Contemporary Cultural Studies(CCCS) while promoting new methods in the domain of subcultural studies. It paid considerable attention to the tone of voice because it amplified the song's lyrics. The chapter investigates based on the analysis and conclude that Puur en Ongezoet operated in similar ways as the spectacular youth subcultures the CCCS described.
