ABSTRACT

With the approval of the Danish extension to the Dutch-German Wadden Sea World Heritage Site, at the World Heritage Committee meeting in Qatar, 2014, the whole Wadden Sea was inscribed as one coherent site on the World Heritage List. This list encompasses the world´s most outstanding cultural and natural heritage sites. The Wadden Sea now ranks at the same level as other global icons, such as the Australian Great Barrier Reef and the American Grand Canyon, and it is one of only three natural World Heritage Sites shared between three states.
