ABSTRACT

Even well-meaning and diligent journalists risk missing the deeper story of American life unless they take intentional measures to explore the root causes of racial inequity. The intentional method introduced in this book requires a willingness to re-examine conventional story frames, build an awareness of historical and societal context, reflect on our own biased racial perceptions, and take on new reporting approaches that clarify the role of interlocking institutional policies and practices in maintaining racial disparity and privilege.
