ABSTRACT

In this chapter we use several kinds of data from burials associated with latte structures at the Hyatt Hotel site on Guam in order to address long-standing questions about the relationship between latte structures and mortuary practice, and the social and spiritual relationships of the many generations of people buried beneath particular latte structures. We address the site at several scales, briefly summarizing the demography and health of the population, examining cranial nonmetric evidence for intra-site biological distance among the largest burial groups, and finally focusing on the osteobiographies of a series of five individuals buried in the same small area under what appears to have been the largest latte set in this very large village.
