ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of key concepts present in the subsequent chapters of this book. Time-limited art psychotherapy is explored in the chapters of the book from the perspective that each authors brings to this domain at this time. The book was conceived out of a feeling of marginalisation against the traditional backdrop of long-term analytic art psychotherapy practice and value systems that the author felt alongside his positive regard for time-limited therapy. Some have worked in teams specialising in time-limited treatments and have adapted and grown their practice in this context. Others have worked alone or with a small group of peers to develop art psychotherapy in time-limited models. The author definition of 'time-limited therapy' refers to a course of therapy whereby the number of sessions and therefore the anticipated ending date is agreed with the client early in the treatment.
