ABSTRACT

The launch of the Imagination Foundation followed the viral success of Caine's Arcade. With the foresight of the film's director, Nirvan Mullick, the support of an entrepreneurial Los Angeles-based donor, and a mission statement Nirvan scribbled on the back of a napkin, the Foundation was born. The Foundation's first program, the Global Cardboard Challenge (GCC), was designed to leverage and grow the movement that sprung from Caine's Arcade. Through GCC, children are encouraged to take cardboard and recycled materials and build whatever they can dream up. Though GCC was named Champion in this challenge, it's important to note that GCC is less a formally designed program and more a natural outgrowth of children's response to the Caine's Arcade short film. From community to community, Cardboard Challenge activities are characterized by significant diversity. As a theory of teaching and learning, Creative Play draws inspiration from a number of sources.
