ABSTRACT

The above description of the lives of the Manchar Lake communities illustrates that, for a major proportion of the world’s population, everyday life is extremely diffi cult. The diffi culties can be categorized under a range of headings: environmental, health-related, economic, cultural, political, and so on. People do not experience this ontological separateness; they are faced with interrelated issues that are often complex, out of their control, and, mainly as a result of an inappropriate education, incomprehensible.
