ABSTRACT

A Learning Group is a collection of persons emotionally, intellectually and aesthetically engaged in solving problems, creating products, and making meaning, an assemblage in which each person learns autonomously and through the ways of learning of others. The Action Research project funded by Bernard Van Leer that was to focus on Learning Groups. Matthew, a member of the Learning Group, gave us a clear lead on this process. Park Drive Nursery in Stirling piloted the documentation approach to children's learning. The relationship between pedagogical documentation and learning Groups is not an easy task, as so many factors and influences have impacted on our practice during that time. Learning Group process for educators and children alike and did not understand that it is subjective, open to different interpretation and is, in fact, multi-dimensional. Educators, children and parents were equal partners in developing real life skills and a collective body of knowledge and understanding.
