ABSTRACT

Callander Primary School, with a school roll of 220, sits within the rural town of Callander, which serves as the eastern gateway to the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park. The school includes a nursery class offering morning and afternoon places, a mainstream school covering stages Primary 1 to Primary 7 and an Autistic Spectrum Disorder Provision. The principles of the Reggio approach to learning have been embraced and implemented, which is the most important aspect of this way of working and developed ways of learning and teaching that build upon the sound foundations the learners experience in nursery. As educators working within the early level of Curriculum for Excellence whose principles are an expression of pedagogical documentation to develop the approach as the children moved in to the primary school. The skills and knowledge identified in nursery were further developed through the children participating in tasks using junk modeling.
