ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses a brief review of social support concepts. The focus will be on the results of the multinational study of received social support and its relationship with Work-family conflict (WFC) and facilitation. The chapter examines the comparative use of social support and the impact of the cultural value of vertical collectivism on the relation between the used or received support from various sources with WFC and work-family positive spillover. It shows that when considering the sources of support and their role in the life of the person, context and culture matters. The meta-analyses have acknowledged that the diversity of measures present in studies are the main moderator of the impact and role of social support. Similar to Work Interfering With Family (WIF), for Family Interfering With Work (FIW) the full model was also better than the intercepts and control variables included model.
