ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book provides some indications as to the direction in which military change is heading. It draws upon three contending schools of thought who explain the variances in military change: neorealist perspectives, organizational theory perspectives and cultural factors. The book explains the trajectory and pathway of military change which each country pursues. It provides an insightful analysis of how select militaries adapt to new strategic realities, operational and technological challenges, as well as internal political and socio-economic changes. Dyson argues the importance of the European great powers to develop balanced forces that can undertake high-intensity warfare as well as land-based stabilization operations. Vivek Chadha emphasizes in his study of the Indian army's counter-insurgency operations is the importance of bottom-up experiences and operational adaptation to achieving success and organizational change.
