ABSTRACT

Geographically, Venezuela has great natural potential for tourism development due to its diversity that combines plains, beaches, jungles, deserts, mountains and climatic variation. The history of women in Venezuela combines political action with the experience of postponement and invisibility through active participation in the struggles for independence. Sports development in Venezuela started to have an important increase of female participants from the 1970s onwards and it is in the last decades where its growth has been significant. Women participate in a range of sports events including the Olympics, International competitions, Paralympics and extreme sports, although gender stereotypes still affect the choices of girls and women. The university training places for physical education started to grow from the 1960s with Pedagogical Institutes established in several parts of the country. Women's participation in sports leadership positions has been more common at the grass roots level, clubs and even local associations.
