ABSTRACT

This chapter addresses the evidence of challenges and opportunities in the field of sport for Latin American women in Spain. It shows that most Latin American women worked in a variety of physical activity and sport occupations, indicating multifunctionality in this labour market, a characteristic also presented by the professional segment of this sector in Spain. Few studies have been conducted in Spain on participation in physical activity and sport among the school-age immigrant population, and in the specific case of children and young people of Latin American origin, such research is practically non-existent. This study also found that from among the entire immigrant population, it was young people of Latin American origin who presented the highest percentage of healthy habits. However, it would also be expedient to promote the existence of areas for participation among Latin American immigrants, given that family cohesion is the prime reason that Latin American women cite for participation in physical activity and sport.
