ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an overview of life in Argentina, focusing on gender issues, and women's participation in all areas of physical activity including in education, recreation and competitive sport. It discusses contextual information on political and institutional aspects, gender equality, issues of women's health and disability. The literature available presents numerous obstacles faced by women and girls who try to get access to reproductive health services, to which they have a right: birth control, voluntary processes of sterilization and abortion after a sexual assault. Argentinean legislation is a cutting-edge set of norms that clearly promotes equality for both men and women in the legal context. Argentina's National Observatory is an organization that gathers and organizes data and quantitative and qualitative information that is related to sports and physical activity. The National Sports Plan establishes the guidelines of the national sports policy under the rule of the Ministry of Social Development of the Nation, through the Secretary of Sport.
