ABSTRACT

Colombia is a democratic State, with a Constitution approved in 1991. Three powers govern the country: the Executive, the Legislative and the Judicial. Throughout the twentieth century and the beginning of the twenty-first, Colombian women have fought to be visible and active members of their society, keeping track of global trends. In order to regulate the constitutional mandates, from 1991 and to date, the Colombian State has issued rules aimed at the protection of women in the implementation of their rights. By law, women in Colombia currently have equal opportunities for accessing the education system. The Colombian Health System identified some inequities in the health of Colombian women. Colombian women broke into sport because of a process of change that started with sporting practices in North America. In Paralympic sport, the Colombian State formulated a policy of gender equity, seeking to increase the participation of women in all fields of sport.
