ABSTRACT

Cuba is an island located in the Caribbean Sea. It belongs to the American continent and is specifically located in Central America. In the context of women and sport, it is essential to consider not only the social environment, the feminist movements, prejudices, customs, mental attitudes, psychological and physiological factors, and the political situation of countries but also the role women played in the feminization of sport. A country's culture models the way sports are practiced. Women in Cuba are involved in sport in different ways such as athletes, coaches, sport leaders, physicians, reporters, sport commentators, teachers and sport psychologists. Women have achieved significant successes in the development of sport in Cuba. Cuba has provided a number of influential women scholars in the fields of physical activity and sport. The Women and Sports department provides scientific direction and comprehensive leadership in sport for women and by women.
