ABSTRACT

This chapter reviews selected literature on global mindset and propose a process that addresses practical issues managers may face when wrestling with this important, yet often ambiguous concept. It provides a literature review of the recent literature on a global mindset to explore its importance in the international business world, its key discussion factors, and potential gaps in the literature. The chapter presents an exploratory process framework that includes: articulating a workable version of global mind-set, making that version concrete enough for employees to understand and do something with it, communicating the version using multiple methods, evaluating employees' ability to comprehend and execute the version, and comparing actual outcomes and behaviors to intended ones. The chapter suggests areas for future global mindset research springing directly from the exploratory framework. It proposes a framework as a sort of potential question-and-checkpoints that managers and academics could use to encourage a broader global mindset within their firms.
