ABSTRACT

This chapter reviews that uneasy term globalization, outline approaches to the notion of the global mindset, and consider the related terms region and regionalization. Globalization is, by common agreement, a contentious term. It doesn't wade into the controversies. The chapter begins with the way in which globalization should be understood in the context of this chapter. It focuses on wide ranging and the various themes do not necessarily lend themselves to straightforward integration. The leitmotif is that interpretations of the global mindset range from the very structured to the loose, and so the core concept lacks explanatory power. The structured versions of the global mindset have been broken down into segments variously for theoretical, practical, and no doubt, pedagogical purposes. The looser versions are based on the formation of attitudes that derive from experience.
