ABSTRACT

This chapter defines the Global mindset (GM) concept and discusses why a GM debate has emerged. It reviews the literature, focusing on its development and the main positions. The chapter also revises conceptual framework is presented and discussed in greater detail, and this chapter follows by a company case using the revised framework for discussion. Javidan and Teagarden see GM as a set of three types of 'capitals' that an individual possesses to a higher or lower degree. Based on extensive conceptualization and empirical studies, they have identified three such capitals: Intellectual capital; Psychological capital; Social capital. The chapter starts with the dynamics and diversity of the global economy and how global companies can respond to such dynamics and diversity. GM has emerged as an important concept both in the academic world and as part of managerial discussions and practices. Global mindset means putting the mindset concept into a specific context: the global context.
