ABSTRACT

Plato, a philosopher in Classical Greece as many political philosophers and theorists have historically, felt the need to address a contemporary social injustice by addressing its root cause and the concepts that justified it happening. In this regard, one can see much symmetry between himself and the Western philosophers to follow, but also those outside of the Western canon. As the reader of a volume of collected works on specific debates in political and social thought, there is a high if almost absolute likelihood that were exposed to the works of Plato and their representation of Socrates political and social thought early on in foray into this field of study. An additional strength and novelty of how this volume approaches considerations of distributive justice is that it also includes perspectives of the Global South, more in particular southern Africa.
