ABSTRACT

In this concluding chapter, we summarize the main ideas found in this volume into 10 statements reflecting the lessons that may be learned from each contribution. We also contextualize the contributions using the Ottawa Parliament shooting of October 2014 as a backdrop. The last section concludes by proposing multiple areas for terrorism research to investigate so as to fill some of the gaps highlighted in this volume. We focus on the adoption of network methods to study and evaluate the work of counter-terrorism task forces, the importance of researching the ways in which the Web can be used to counter violent extremism, and the continued push for conceptual and methodological innovation in research on social media.
