ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the concepts and characteristics of city logistics for efficient and environmentally friendly urban freight transport systems. It highlights the city logistics policy measures including joint delivery systems using urban consolidation centres and application of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS). It also discusses the importance of Public-Private Partnerships of stakeholders who are involved in city logistics. Some case studies on city logistics in Japan, China, India, Philippines, and Thailand are given for describing the current state in Asian countries. Future perspectives focus on health issues relating to city logistics in an aging society and humanitarian logistics after disasters.
