ABSTRACT

Basketball is one of the most popular indoor sports, played at professional and amateur levels. It is a time-dependent, high-scoring game with detailed rules, which were advanced and developed during the last century. Performance in basketball is strongly dependent on the anthropometric characteristics, fitness and technical and tactical skills of players, as well as team strategy and tactics. Most of these factors should be regarded during the training process in a way representative of the competition demands to ensure the transfer of the developed skills and capacities to the on-court performances. Therefore, the information collected from a match is very important to organise the training sessions and prepare for the forthcoming contests. Performance analysis in basketball is a powerful tool that is largely used by coaches, scouts, sport scientists and technical staff and allows gathering valid and reliable information.
