ABSTRACT

Sports performance is influenced by several sources of constraint (Davids et al., 2008). Performers prepare themselves to be in a state of performance readiness at a specific future date. In order to assess such a state of readiness and to describe some aspects of sports performance many variables, metrics, indicators,3 or indices have been developed by sport scientists (Hughes & Bartlett, 2002; Sampaio & Leite, 2013). Applied sport scientists and coaches use these indicators, often complemented with images and video footage, to make decisions about diagnostics and interventions. More specifically, the main applications for performance indicators have been on educational use, for coaches and players, movement analysis, modelling and creation of databases for statistical compilation (Alamar, 2013; Hughes & Franks, 2008).
