ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a debate is as follows: Are the teachings of Christianity calculated to promote adequately the welfare of humanity in this life. My task is to substantiate an affirmative answer, Mrs. Besant has undertaken to prove the negative. It may be useful to state at once that author regards the whole New Testament as containing the teachings of Christianity, and not the Four Gospels only. Therefore the author claims the right of quoting from any portion of the New Testament. In as much as any and every human being may be viewed from various standpoints, the welfare of humanity in this life is capable of manifold aspects. A human being may be survoyed as an individual endowed with bodily powers and mental faculties; secondly, as having family relationships; thirdly, as a member of society; fourthly, as a political citizen.
