ABSTRACT
There are many who acknowledge that Christianity has made for the retardation of scientific thought, the hindering of human progress. The original God of the Jews was of a peculiarly brutal and ferocious type, brought as he was out of the desert and the hardships of a nomadic life. Turning to the world with Christian Gods, finds reproduced the horrors of Jahveistic worship, tho Cherem and the burnt-sacrifice. Of all the Gods of the world, the Christian Gods have, perhaps, wrought the most harm, and these both because of their genealogy and of the doctrines of the religion which belongs to them. The Mahommedan God is the one who has done least mischief and most good. The wonderful Moorish empires, the scientific culture of the Arabs and Spanish moors, have thrown a glory over the Mahommedan religion which does not altogether belong to it.
