ABSTRACT
Beach boardwalks come in many different flavors just like the ice cream always somewhere to be had on them or that one imagines can always be found. Some boardwalks are wide, others narrow; most are long but some are short; some boardwalks are made of wood as the name implies, but others are paved; some wooden boardwalks are elevated high above the sand, some raised a little, others hardly raised at all; some walks locally known as boardwalks are not formally named boardwalks but are called promenades or simply walks; some boardwalks are lined with entertainment venues, be they glittering casinos or light-splashed amusement parks, while others are lined with parks, or apartment buildings, or houses, or beach cottages, or motels, or hotels, or resorts, or retail stores, or myriad combinations of these. The designs and situations of beach boardwalks are all over the map.
