ABSTRACT
Communities have developed promenades for many different reasons and within widely varying circumstances. Some were built as part of economic development strategies, some were conceived as amenities within bucolic parks, and some were conceptualized foremost as entertainment venues. Some are oriented toward local residents, some toward tourists, and some toward both. All are to take advantage of a water setting with a public amenity.
