ABSTRACT

The Tavistock Clinic and Institute had budgeted their money for salaries and overheads for the earlier date, and our coffers duly ran out by 31st March. The Ministry of Health had accepted the potential value of this hybrid, which, through awareness of the Army activities, they had learned to see as highly relevant to preventive and social medicine. Miss Marjorie Harborough was appointed as the head of the secretarial service and personal assistant to the Medical Director, in which capacity she is still at the Tavistock, with most lines of communication in her loyal and discreet keeping. The organization of clinical work so as to make the maximum contribution to teaching and experience for staff members in training bears some further description, as it was certainly a new departure from the large but inchoate staff structure of the pre-war ClinicIn the Adult Department research in a formal sense started in 1949.
