ABSTRACT

Similar to any other commodities, housing prices are driven by a number of different factors. Previous literature showed that structural and location factors affect housing prices (Tekel and Akbarishahabi 2013). In Chinese society, Feng Shui is believed to be an important factor which may drag housing prices up or down. The word “Feng Shui” is equivalent to the word wind and water in English. It is the desire to bring good fortune to our offspring by leaving better land (Li, Law and Leung 2014, Chau et al. 2001). It is believed that good Feng Shui benefits households while bad Feng Shui brings bad luck to residents. Moreover, many Chinese believe that some a properties’ characteristics and views can bring different fates to the residents who live there. For example, it is generally believed that a sea view brings wealth to the household: sea represents water and water is related to money and riches.
