ABSTRACT

While global economic growth during the last two decades has lifted billions out of poverty, its rewards have been unequally distributed and it has brought unprecedented environmental impacts. Urgent development challenges remain and one of the most critical is to meet future increasing demands for food, feed and bioresources in a way that does not threaten our planet and the wellbeing of future generations. This is also emphasized in the post-2015 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which stress that growth must not only be sustainable but also inclusive and equitable.
