ABSTRACT

This chapter offers the suggestions on delineating what a physical cultural studies (PCS) approach to the study of sexualized and sexed bodies might look like by identifying existing research on sexualized and sexed bodies which embraces a PCS approach. It discusses the current research in terms of what a PCS sensibility offers to as teachers/activists/researchers as a way of encouraging others to further contemplate the viability of PCS in this domain. The chapter outlines the loose parameters of a PCS approach to the study of sexualized/sexed bodies through a select reading of illustrative examples. It provides a space to reflect on previous knowledge and pull together varied approaches in the interests of furthering the academic study of (in)active sexualized/sexed bodies. The chapter explores some of the own hesitancies in the hopes of furthering the discussion on the possibilities of PCS as an analytical tool to study sexualized/sexed bodies.
