ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters. The book provides a brief analysis of diverse views of the food security discourse supported by an extensive literature survey. The first key issue is the role of science and technology and its contribution to food security as experienced in different country cases. The second key issue is population growth and changing demographic patterns that will impact the future of food security. The third major issue is land tenure, entitlements and reforms that played a key role in shaping the food security at the household level in many countries. The fourth, and an equally key factor, is climate change and its impacts on food production, which is already being felt in many countries. The fifth key factor is good governance and policies with a goal to eradicate poverty, reduce economic inequality and move towards sustainable food security systems.
