ABSTRACT

In most classrooms, teachers have at least one challenging student. While 95of students present normal life issues, the most extreme cases present unique challenges. Occasionally, teachers will have the one student who is highly gifted and needs additional support, attention, or extensions to be productive and participate. On the other hand, a teacher may get a student who has significant learning disabilities, or has major gaps in past learning or understanding. Other times, the outside world leaks into the classroom and teachers are faced with hungry, stressed, working, or abused students who have difficulty participating in society regardless of the structure of their educational environment.
