ABSTRACT

The Daily Dialogue is an activity that couples can practice in order to build positive and encouraging interactions into their daily life. While this technique can be integrated into various theoretical orientations, Adlerian psychology provides a helpful rationale for incorporating this practice. The Adlerian counselor believes that a couple’s problems are not a result of disorders within the individuals, but rather difficulties that result from the relational patterns that they have created. The Daily Dialogue provides an opportunity for partners to thoughtfully share important and personal aspects about each other in hopes of fostering a genuine connection so that each partner feels encouraged. The Daily Dialogue provides the structure for couples to intentionally build the reconnection, prevent continued isolation, and build intimacy. The counselor introduced The Daily Dialogue as a safe way to help the partners to connect in a way that reduced the likelihood of the usual negative intensity of their arguments.
