ABSTRACT

Although Rabbi Nisim came from Baghdad, his approach to the study of Judaism closely resembles that of the Lithuanian Ashkenazi rabbis. He often led scholarly debates with them. He also had ties to leading rabbis and scholars from Israel, Germany and Poland. In 1925 he settled in Jerusalem, where he soon established contacts with local leading scholars, such as Rabbi Avraham Kook HaKohen and Rabbi Ben Zion Uziel.
