ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of the book. The book provides a comprehensive overview of the current theoretical foundations and frameworks in crisis that have been adapted or developed to examine crisis communication in a complex media network intertwining social media and traditional media. It reviews crisis communication strategies for using social media differently in varied practice areas with specific contexts, issues, and stakeholders; and pathways toward "evidenced-based crisis communication research", as Coombs and Holladay advocated for in The Handbook of Crisis Communication, in situations where a crisis was initiated, mediated, or escalated through social media. It is especially critical to understand, appreciate, and be mindful of crisis emotions in times of crisis and how audiences and publics express their feelings toward multiple entities, including organizations, victims, and others.
