ABSTRACT

Standards are "general statements of what students should know or be able to do as a result of their public school education". Curriculum content standards represent the expectations of the general education curriculum. Curriculum content standards encompass what gets taught, including skills, knowledge and subject matter. Benchmarks are "clear descriptions of expectations for student knowledge, skills and abilities relative to content standards". Curriculum content standards set targets and performance levels that students should achieve in the content. NCLB was the first mandate that all states need to have one set of curriculum content standards and achievement standards. The resources developed for schools and teachers are aligned to the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). The resources include materials in two broad areas: curriculum Resources developed to enhance understanding of curriculum content, and instructional Resources related specifically to classroom teaching.
