This chapter focuses on a welina in Hawaiian and provides several ways to introduce one self. The author Ma Ke Ala Pono has leadership experiences in his community. There are many Hawaiian values that can describe Hawaiian leadership or leadership in general. These values are further explained along with his experiences to show how they have shaped his leadership. The first value has come to identify through his leadership experiences is kuleana. Kuleana is a vital component toward becoming an effective leader. The second value is laulima, which literally means many hands. It is applicable in his life, because it has grown in his life as an integral part to what he does. Three steps could include the following: Develop official positions for indigenous leadership that are included as part of the organizational chart of the university, increase indigenous faculty and staff across all fields of study, Include Indigenous representation in all university committees.
