ABSTRACT

When society as a whole bears the responsibility for providing affordable and clean energy to citizens and companies, then the abundance of wind, water movements and sun is an advantage for renewable energy compared to fossil energies, a promising possibility for cost-reduction for society instead of a threat to private profits. A renewable energy system would, on the other hand, cut out most of the profits made on fuels. Corporations will always defend their investments, but if the energy companies saw equally profitable business opportunities in renewable energy as in fossil fuels, it is likely that the transition would be well on its way by now. Of course, capital can profit also from renewable energy, especially from selling equipment and electricity, but as long as no way of privatizing solar radiation and wind and water movements has been invented, little or no fuel will be sold, and a steady source of profits for corporate energy business is emptied.
