ABSTRACT

Bullying among university students can be either/or/and rstbullying and cyberbullying and this can occur both on and off campus. Bullying is destructive for the individual and can create a feeling of unsafeness for individuals and within the student population as a whole. It is crucial that university authorities address this malignant phenomenon by creating effective anti-bullying policies and practices for halting and addressing bullying and its effects. Student unions are funded largely from student fees, meaning they are not there as a gift from the university, but are a student-funded resource. Realising this means that an equal rather than a deferential relationship needs to be negotiated and claimed. This chapter reiterates the need to harness the potential power possessed by student bodies and the academic and administrative staff of a university in mounting a case to protect its members from internal and external bullying.
