ABSTRACT

The aim of this chapter is to provide personal insights into a range of professional work representing 20 years of experience delivering psychological services within tennis. First, I will discuss my personal and academic background, noting how this facilitated both my entry into the sport as well as elements of my consulting philosophy and models of practice. Second, I will then outline the various work and career-related progressions that I experienced in service delivery and reinforce the range of formal and informal roles that exist for a tennis consultant working in a national organization. Drawing from this experience, I will outline strategies and thematic areas that I believe have underpinned my more effective consulting outcomes. Finally, I will conclude the chapter with some reflective recommendations for practitioners who are keen to gain the opportunity to work with tennis clients.
