ABSTRACT

I grew up in a time and place where gender hierarchy, domination, discrimination, bullying, and harassment did not exist, neither academically nor in praxis. In the course of my ski life, through trial and error, I learned how to be less feminine around men (concerning behavior and dress code, which was my way of avoiding romantic mishaps), and I discovered how to collaborate with, disagree with, develop alongside, and receive support from men. This enabled me to find personal success, as well as deal with inappropriate jokes and rough sexist behaviors, while not jeopardizing my personal integrity. All of my experiences as an athlete and a coach provided me with a sense of confidence to venture into the world of polo and excel as a sport psychologist.
