ABSTRACT

Born and raised in the United Kingdom, but a resident and citizen of the United States for the last 15 years, I have benefited from a combination of cultural perspectives and opportunities both academically and professionally. One of the significant moments of my early career was on my first day in my chosen undergraduate field of psychology and sport science. Expecting to be inspired and hear the pearls of wisdom from our lead professor, he told us there was simply no such thing as a sport psychologist. While many of us felt dejected and confused, it’s certainly true that there’s not a clear career track or large number of salaried jobs in the field. Nonetheless, it was a rude awakening to someone with a passion and fascination for mental performance.
