ABSTRACT

The clinical framework creates a predictable environment within which the patient/s will build up their trust and attachment to the therapist and therapeutic process and the treatment can flourish. Reliability is introduced by the therapist's availability at the set times and her mental stance. The videotaping of each session is an integral part of the work. The videos may be used for parent feedback and reflection, clinical discussion, clinical audit and research, teaching, and training. Gutheil and Gabbard distinguish between 'boundary crossing' and 'boundary violation'. Psychoanalytic is counter-indicated where the parent cannot engage in a treatment setting and relationship. In a brief intervention the therapist and family may be able to accomplish dramatic change through focused attention to both strengths and disturbances. Brief intervention is a treatment of choice for families whose difficulties are circumscribed, or who wish to address only specific aspects of their difficulties.
