ABSTRACT

The most important impact of massive open online courses (MOOCs) may be in uses focused outside of subject-based higher education. Today, new models of learning delivery are emerging in many fields outside of higher education that will significantly impact the evolution of the MOOC. It may be that professional associations and corporations will find MOOCs an effective way to reach the general public, dispersed members of their profession, and those in related fields. Center for Online Learning, Research and Service (COLRS) is tracking the advent of business and corporate use of MOOCs for the training and professional development of employees. German companies such as SAP are not the only corporations building MOOCs for industry use. Other corporations such as TELUS, a Canadian-based communication company, are also using MOOCs to deliver employee training.
