ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses curriculum development for Taiwan by considering different aspects of German didactics. It provides the developmental history of German didactics particularly with reference to Hinz. Modern German didactics as an educational discipline can be traced back to the European educator John Amos Comenius in the mid-seventeenth century. Modern German didactics theories obtain materials for their starting basis from the philosophical tradition of educational science, school education, subject matter didactics and reform pedagogics, as well as its neighboring disciplines in the broad sense. Didactics theories have their own traditions and obtain materials from basic educational disciplines such as educational philosophy and history of education. A didactics model would be considered a middle range theory, a specific approach or even a localized small theory. Teaching practices without a strong connection with curriculum theory are a common phenomenon in Taiwan's classrooms; curriculum development in schools lacks professional criticism and a communication platform.
