ABSTRACT

This chapter reflects issues involved in conducting research, with sex offenders, which is respectful of the dignity of research participants. It addresses epistemological tensions underpinning utilitarian motivations for research. It focuses on respectful interactions that recognise and support the dignity of offenders throughout the research process. One key area considered is the management of confidentiality. Dissemination raises issues related to: the involvement of research participants, the nature of forensic treatment, external influences of publication and the (written) representation of acts of sex harm.
