ABSTRACT

This chapter highlights the roles and responsibilities of coaches and officials in SD, as well as highlighting the additional expectations and accountabilities of change agents working in SFD. It described as facilitators or mediators that aim to support communities to achieve desired sport development legacies (SFD) outcomes therefore, they are often involved both on and off the field of play. The chapter explores the theoretical overview before providing a coaching case study from Australia and a study of change agents in an SFD program in Sri Lanka. Researchers have suggested that coaches can play the role of mentors, teachers, managers and leaders, father figures and moral educators. The issue of coach training and education is an important one to consider from a sport development perspective.
